SIEGE COOKING COMPETITION RULES AND REGULATIONS

It's WAR!  And the rations are getting sparse.  Everyone knows that an army fights better when fed a tasty meal.  Culinary teams are being sought in an effort to see who can come up with the better dish/meal while under siege.  Each Team is to be made up of two to five people.  Teams shall gather on Saturday, August 24, 2013, their kitchens ready, pots and pans gleaming, knives sharp, aprons clean, and larders ready to receive rations.

The Siege Cooking patron will provide a variety of “mystery” edibles, including staples and spices.  Each team shall prepare at least three dishes. Your group could win!  Bragging rights will be allocated to the winning team as well as a prize for each team to divvy as they please.

No one, except the siege cooking patron, will know what the various ingredients will be before the start of the competition.  Each team will randomly select their mystery ingredients from the various categories.

Each Team shall consist of 2-5 members and is responsible for providing any notes they wish the judges to have about methods of cooking, techniques, etc.

Start Time
Ea
ch Team shall come to the staging area Saturday Afternoon at 1:00 PM to sign in and select ingredients. Teams may come as late as 1:30 PM to sign up and collect ingredients.

The cooking start time will be 1:00 PM.  No Team shall reveal any information about ingredients until all teams have received their supplies and the competition started – if even then.  Judging will begin at approximately 5:00 PM.

You will be notified at the time you receive your ingredients where the judging area will be. An invitation only dinner for Royals and Nobles will be served and judge your creations. Be sure each dish will serve 8 to 10 people.

Kitchens
Each Team must provide a kitchen.  Each Team must have their kitchen set up and ready for cooking at the start of the competition.
The competition does not provide an area for kitchen set up.  Each kitchen must include a means of cooking.

No electricity is allowed.
Wood, Charcoal, white gas, and propane are acceptable.

Legality of other means of cooking will be determined on a case by case basis.

Each kitchen must include all equipment needed to prepare the meal:

Pots and pans
Bowls and containers
Knives and utensils

Serving dishes and utensils

Each kitchen MUST include enough plain water for all cooking and sanitation needs.  (Potable water is available on site.)

Each Team may bring and use any cookbooks and recipes they wish.

NO documentation is necessary for this competition – but of course it never hurts!

Each team may contribute up to three items from their own larder but you must be able to justify how/why you have access to these items.
